Marquez beats Barrera for 130-pound world title

Juan M. Marquez W12 Marco A. Barrera... In Las Vegas, Juan Manuel Marquez became a two-division champion, winning the world 130-pound championship from Marco Antonio Barrera via unanimous decision. The official scores were 116-111 (twice) and 118-109. Barrera, now 63-5, lost a point for hitting Marquez, now 47-3-1, while he was down. The ruling cost Barrera a three point swing as he had just knocked Marquez down but the referee negated the knockdown due to the foul.  The logical next superfight would be between Marquez and Manny Pacquiao, who previously fought to a draw, but warring promoters will make negotiations difficult.
