Margarito will defend his WBO title vs. Clottey on a Top Rank card which will include Miguel Cotto vs. Carlos Quintana in a bout for the vacant WBA version of the 147-pound title.  Cotto vs Quintana and Margarito vs Clottey will be promoted by Top Rank in association with Northeast Promotions and will be hosted by Caesars Atlantic City. The big world title fight doubleheader will be broadcast on Showtime Championship Boxing.

FIGHT NOTEBOOK -- Margarito said his father was a huge boxing fan: "....I was born in Torrance, California. I moved to Tijuana when I was very young. I grew up there and played soccer, basketball. My father was a big boxing fan and he started to take me to the fights when I was eight years old. I started to box soon after that..." ....Clottey, born in Accra, Ghana, began fighting at the age of six. "...I was a soccer player but there was boxing in my area. There was this guy beating everyone and I asked a coach if I could fight him.  The coach said 'you've never fought before - why?' and I said "because I can beat him."....Clottey said he fought, got kicked in the stomach area, lost the fight and got sick that night....."I started training because of that. I later beat him and he stopped boxing and I stopped playing soccer. That's how it all started for me..."
