Mares in action on Friday night!

PRESS RELEASE: Undefeated super bantamweight prospect Abner Mares of Montebello, California will square off against Kevin Hudgins of Pensacola, Florida in the eight round co-main event of INDEPENDENCE BRAWL this Friday night, September 15th at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom.

INDEPENDENCE BRAWL, an outstanding evening of world class professional

boxing is presented by 8 Count Productions, HOME OF THE BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions along with Miller Lite and TCF Bank.

The fully air conditioned Aragon Ballroom is located at 1106 W. Lawrence Avenue on the north side of Chicago. Doors for this event will open at 5:30pm, with the first bell scheduled for 6:30pm. Tickets starting at $25 are available in advance by calling 312-226-5800.

Mares, a 2004 Mexican Olympian, with a record of 8-0 with five knockouts, most recent win was a unanimous decision over Omar Adorno on February 24th at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mares was scheduled to make his Chicago debut on the WAR BY THE SHORE event this past May but suffered an emergency appendectomy after the weigh-in. He is trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr., also the trainer of Oscar De La Hoya.

Hudgins, 5-5 with 2 knockouts is returning to the 8 Count Productions’ ring where he

fought a six round war with Francisco Rodriguez last year, dropping a very close

unanimous decision.

Said Dominic Pesoli, “Mares was supposed to fight here earlier this year but took ill

the night before the fight. I saw his last bout in Vegas and he looked great. Hudgins

is an extremely tough guy who loves to fight and this should be an all action battle from the opening bell.”
