Makepula-Kostin set for Friday in South Africa

PRESS RELEASE: South African boxing legend turned promoter, Baby Jake Matala, still remembers his close points lost decision to junior bantamweight contender Hawk Makepula. In a twist of fate, Matlala, is now involved in promoting the very same man who conquered him in his role with South African promoter BSP. Makepula will be fighting tough-as-nails Russian Andrey Kostin next Friday, June 24 at the Orient Theatre in East London, over 10 rounds. "I owe it to Baby Jake to win this one and I'm going to do it for him," said Makepula, Boxingtalk's #8 junior bantamweight. "Despite beating him in the ring, he (Baby Jake) is still, and always will be, my hero," said Makepula. Kostin (16-4) is rated #25 in the world by Boxingtalk. He is the man to have beaten Peter Culshaw, in his own backyard in June last year. "I firmly believe that to acheive any goal in this game or rise to any great heights, I have to fight against the best," said the soft-spoken Makepula. BSP has added a strong co-feature, a regional mini-flyweight title bout between the newest addition to the BSP stable, Tsepo Lefele (11-1) and national Fillipino champion Elmer Gejon (12-7-1).
