Makaringe vacates South African title!

Press Release: Longtime South African welterweight champion Joseph “Smokin Joe” Makaringe will be back in action at the Nasrec Indoor Arena in Johannesburg on July 28, 2006 in a ten-rounder.  Howeverm Makaringe will step into the ring without the national title to his name as his promoter, Branco Sports Productions (BSP) have confirmed that Makaringe will relinquished the domestic title. “With Makaringe having made no less than 10 successful defenses of his SA title, there is very little, if nothing, for him to prove locally and he has no option really, other than to explore his international options,” commented BSP boss Branco Milenkovic. Makaringe, who won the domestic title in 2000, will face Ghanaian Ishmael Tetteh at Nasrec. Makaringe (29-2), still holds a regional title and he is the favorite to beat Tetteh (14-3-1). The undercard is expected to feature lightweight Patrick Malinga, junior lightweight Jasper Seroka and junior lightweight prospect Sipho Taliwe (9-0 – all by way of knockout). The show will be featured on SABC Sport’s Blow by Blow – Uncut on SABC 2 from 10pm.
