M-16 Mateen busted in scam

Ernest "M-16" Mateen, a former cruiserweight who holds two wins over David Telesco, was busted in Florida for allegedly running a scam that duped three investors into paying him $100,000. Attorney Stephen Koons and two other men were approached by Mateen to become his managers.  Mateen convinced them he had a $1.5 million dollar marketing deal with the sneaker company adidas.  The three wannabes started a corporation, and foolishly gave Mateen $100,000 in 2004 because he told them he needed it to get a bout with Roy Jones (obviously the three guys weren't Boxingtalk readers, or they would have known Jones was busy fighting Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson).  Eventually, these Einsteins realized they'd been had and called the police. When a warrant was issued for his arrest, Mateen turned himself in and was released on bail.  source: Florida Sun-Sentinel
