Trainer of heavyweight contender Sergei Lyakhovich Kenny Weldon spoke to Boxingtalk minutes ago and denied other boxing websites news that his fighter will be fighting Owen Beck on the Jean Mormeck-O'Neil Bell card January 7th. "That was old news, Sergei is coming off of 1 year inactivity and we are not taking a fight like this on only 2 weeks notice. Even if Beck had only one leg and one arm we still wouldn't fight him only on 2 weeks notice, he has been training the whole time and we haven't. Sergei's management feels like a fight with Beck on only 2 weeks notice is not the right move to make since their fighter is recovering from a major injury. Sergei is still going to be on the card but against TBA as of right now and then after possibly a fight with recently dethroned WBA champion John Ruiz."
