Lovemore Ndou Talks Rematch with Malignaggi and What It's Like Training with Mayweather

"Mayweather beats up Hatton so bad that the Queen kicks him out of the country."

After giving his response to Paulie Malignaggi yesterday on Boxingtalk, Lovemore Ndou spoke one-on-one with BT about facing Paulie in a rematch, and why he thinks this time around will be much different for the Black Panther.  Ndou also talks extensively about serving as Floyd Mayweather's chief sparring partner as he gets ready to face Ricky Hatton next month.  According to Ndou, his respect for Mayweather as a fighter is on a whole other level now.  Check it out.

Boxingtalk:  Lovemore, I saw your response to Malignaggi on BoxingTalk yesterday.  What is the latest with your next fight?

Lovemore Ndou:  I am going to fight in January.  As long as the contract specifies I get the winner of Malignaggi-Ngoudjo then I’ll fight.  Right now I only have a verbal agreement.  He’s avoiding me.  He has come up with other excuses in the past.  Anyone who has seen the fight knows he’s avoiding me.  If we get the right ref this time, then I’ll knock him out and get my title back.

BT:  What will you do different in your rematch against Malignaggi to make sure you get your title back?

Lovemore Ndou:  My training is perfect.  I’d make some minor adjustments, but I just need a different referee who will allow me to fight.  They know how I fight.  You have to stay on top of Malignaggi, but the ref would push me away and warn me.  Malignaggi would push his head into my face and the ref would not say anything.  In the fifth punch I threw, the ref was already warning me.  It was like he was looking for a reason to disqualify me.

BT:  Do you know who your next opponent may be?

Lovemore:  No, I’m still waiting to hear who they’re going to put in front of me.

BT:  What has it been like working with and sparring with Floyd Mayweather as he gets ready for his fight against Hatton?

Lovemore Ndou:  It’s all good training with Mayweather. This is the best workout I’ve ever had.  I’ve worked with Kostya Tszyu, but it’s not the same.  I see now why Floyd is so successful.

BT:  How have you improved yourself since working with Floyd?

Lovemore Ndou:  In boxing you’re never too old to learn.  I realize I can learn more defensive moves and tactics.  There is so much discipline and hard work in this camp.  Floyd is such a hard worker.  My respect for him is on a whole other level now.  Some people think he talks too much, but he backs it up.

BT:  Now that you have worked directly with Floyd, what is your take on his fight with Hatton?

Lovemore Ndou:  Mayweather beats up Hatton so bad that the Queen kicks him out of the country.  They’re going to send him to Australia where all the former convicts are.  That’s my territory and I’ll have him for my English breakfast.  Look at Hatton’s record.  Who has he beaten?  He beat Kostya when Kostya was ready to be taken.  In his prime Kostya would have defeated him in two rounds. Castillo didn’t want to fight.  We all know Castillo wasn’t getting paid for the fight.  Why should Castillo have fought if he wasn’t getting paid?  Mayweather has beaten everyone at their best, collecting titles on the way.  He’s a legend, and I don’t see how Hatton is going to beat him.  Hatton has little ability who spends his spare time in the pub.  Mayweather is just too good and people are going to have to accept that.

BT:  What are your daily activities in the gym with Floyd?

Lovemore Ndou:  I go running at 4 in the morning, and then get to the gym at 3pm.  We spar, work on the bag, then I do my own stuff.  We work for 2-3 hours in the gym almost every day we’re there.

BT:  What would you like to say to your fans who will be looking forward to seeing you in the ring soon?

Lovemore Ndou:  I’m still here.  My last fight with Malignaggi was a fluke, and thank you for your support.
