Press Release: The Louis Turner/Hernandez eight-rounder is featured on the undercard of the lightweight unification bout between undefeated WBA/WBO champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, and IBF champion Julio “The Kidd” Diaz.

Finishing up a recent training session at Fuller Park gym in Chicago, Turner, sporting a record of 11-0 (7KO’s) spoke of the importance of the fight, “This is a real solid step up for me, Toro’s fought and beat many world class fighters. He’s a pretty straight forward fighter with a great deal of experience, so it’s important I’m able to adjust to whatever he brings into the ring.”

Hernandez comes into the bout with Turner with a record of 27-6 (16KO’s). In 2003, he challenged Winky Wright for the junior middleweight world title. His career also includes battles with former world champions Kassim Ouma, Wilfredo Rivera and Frankie Randall.

About fighting at home, Turner stated, “I’m glad we are fighting in Chicago as we’re both from here and it’s been a while since I last fought in town. It’s always nice to have the support of your family and friends.”

Turner last fight in Chicago was a unanimous decision win over Kendall Gould on December 22, 2006 at Cicero Stadium. Prior to that he defeated David Estrada at the Allstate Arena on October 7, 2006.

The 26 year old Turner was a Chicago Golden Gloves champion in 2002 and 2005. In both years, he was voted “Outstanding Fighter of the Tournament.” He also participated in the 2004 Olympic Trials.

About his future plans, the modest Turner said, ‘This is my first eight rounder, there’s no reason to look ahead, I’ve got a big task fighting Toro on the 13th.”

Louis Turner is promoted by Don King Productions, managed by Bob Cerbe and trained by James Dixon.
