Undefeated middleweight contender Giovanni Lorenzo will be wearing the number 587 on his boxing trunks this Saturday night when he faces Bruce Rumbloz on the undercard of Briggs -Ibragimov in honor of the 265 mostly Dominican victims of American Airlines flight 587 that crashed Nov.12, 2001.Lorenzo also plans to donate a portion of his earnings to the flight 587 memorial fund.

"This is a very special fight for me because it will be in memory of my lost brothers and sisters of flight AA 587.Lorenzo said while taking a break from training on Wednesday". I am Dominican and on November 12, 2001 every Dominican I know was deeply affected by this tragety. I am wearing number 587 to honor and show respect of those lost, those left behind and to do my part in letting the world know so the victims will not be forgotten."

"A memorial has been erected in Rockaway Park NY with the names of each and every victim, it was designed by Dominican artist Freddy Rodriguez and it has window and a doorway that is angled toward the Dominican Republic looking out over the Atlantic Ocean with the words in both Spanish and English from Dominican poet Pedro Mir which says" Despues yo quiero no mas que paz. / Afterwards I want nothing more than peace."

"I was priveledged on May 6, 2007 to attend a memorial service at Woodlands Cemetary in NY were 889 unidentified fragments of human remains of the victims of the crash were laid to rest together. This experience has made me proud to be Dominican and to do my small part in honoring those affected together with other Dominicans.
