Lorenzo throws his name into Taylor sweepstakes!

Press Release: Undefeated middleweight Giovanni Lorenzo (20-0, 12 KO’s), who is fighting in a ten-round bout against Santiago Samaniego on the July 22 Arturo Gatti vs. Carlos Baldomir undercard, took time out from his busy training schedule to congratulate undisputed world middleweight champion Jermain Taylor for his successful title defense on Saturday evening against Winky Wright.  “Taylor showed that you have to fight for 12 full rounds.  You can’t fight for 11 rounds and run for the last three minutes thinking you won.  A real champion doesn’t do that and Taylor showed why he is a real champion.  I just hope now that Taylor will start giving us young guys a shot at the title, just like he was given one as a young fighter.  Enough with the older guys.  Let’s have some young blood fighting for the crown.”   In addition to be an undefeated middleweight Lorenzo is also a former Olympian and amateur standout.  As an amateur Giovanni Lorenzo fought over 200 bouts, compiling a dominating record of 231-15.  He won 15 amateur tournaments and earned a spot on the 2000 Dominican Republic Olympic Team.
