Lonnie Bradley's comeback on hold

By Donald Wright

Boxingtalk has learned from the promoter that former WBO middleweight champion Lonnie Bradley's comeback fight scheduled for this week has been cancelled.  This latest setback for Bradley occurred when the promoters pulled the plug on a fight card that would have taken place this Thursday at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, New Jersey.  Bradley was last seen in November 2003 getting stopped in the seventh round by David Lopez.  Prior to that fight, the undefeated Bradley was attempting to rebound from a two-year absence caused by surgery for a detached retina.  This week's postponement actually ranks among the more mundane for Bradley.  Moments before the start of his scheduled September 2003 bout against last minute sub Epifanio Mendoza, Bradley was informed that Mendoza tore a tendon in his elbow while hitting the pads in his dressing room.  Apparently Mendoza missed the pad, struck a wall, and derailed the arduous journey that Bradley still hopes will lead him back to the middleweight championship.  Remember where you heard it first!
