Light heavyweight Justin Thomas murdered in Louisiana

Boxingtalk sends its belated condolences to the friends and family of Justin Thomas, a light heavyweight boxer who was shot and killed outside a night club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Thomas boxed professionally as a light heavyweight and super middleweight from 2012-2019, compiling a record of 19-5. In 2017, he lost a majority decision to then-undefeated Mike Lee. Thomas' manager, Derek Major told KALB television, “He was towards the end of his career, but he was going to make the best of it all. He had really good opportunities coming up.” One of his trainers, L.J. Morvant added, "No one coach or one gym can claim Justin, but he was just one of those guys who loved boxing. He loved being in a gym. If he wasn’t coming here today, he was going to be somewhere. As long as he had his music and that bag, he was good to go,” said Morvant. The Baton Rouge Police Department has been unable to identify a suspect or a motive in the tragic slaying.
