Leavander Johnson update

After losing his IBF lightweight title to Jesus Chavez on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Leavander Johnson collapsed in his dressing room, was revived but collapsed again during the ambulance ride to a local hospital. Johnson underwent brain surgery for a subdural hematoma (bleeding on the brain) and Boxingtalk was informed afterwards that Johnson was placed in a drug-induced coma in an attempt to minimize brain swelling. While the Atlantic City warrior's prognosis is far from rosy, Johnson surgeon said on Sunday things are looking a little better. "You certainly can't make predictions but I wasn't certain he would even survive last night,'' Dr. William Smith told the Associated Press. "My thoughts are that he's dramatically improved today so he seems to be moving in the right direction.'' -Scott Shaffer
