Lazcano-Harris official for Feb. 10

Press Release: Junior welterweight contenders Juan Lazcano and Vivian Harris will battle it out on Saturday, February 10, 2007 in a WBC elimination bout which is the co-featured attraction at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. “As far as I’m concerned, this matchup is as good as, if not better, than a world title fight,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions.  “These are two veterans with a lot on the line, and it may be safe to say that while the winner goes on to fight for the championship, the loser may have to re-evaluate his career and where he’s headed.  That type of pressure always makes for a great fight.” Lazcano (37-3-1, 27 KOs) moved to the 140-pound weight class in 2005 and put together a four fight win streak that includes wins over Ben Tackie and Courtney Burton.  In his last fight, on October 21st, Lazcano pounded out a hard-fough, controversial decision over Manuel Garnica. Harris (27-2-1, 18 KOs) has long been one of boxing’s most avoided practitioners.  A pro since 1997, Harris finally got his break in 2002, when he fought and knocked out Diosbelys Hurtado to win the WBA junior welterweight championship.  He defended the crown three times before an upset loss to Carlos Maussa in 2005, but with a win over Stevie Johnston, ‘Vicious’ Vivian is ready to challenge for the crown once again. Tickets to show, which is headlined by Sugar Shane Mosley vs. Luis Collazo will be sold at the Mandalay Bay box office and Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations.
