Sergio Mora won a million dollar purse by defeating Peter Manfredo by seven-round unanimous decision in the final bout of The Contender, televised live on NBC from Las Vegas. Mora improved to 16-0 with four of those wins coming in The Contender series. The bout was exciting, and not even Sylvester Stallone's play-by-play commentary could ruin it (although his incessant "Oh my God!" exclamations showed how much talent the HBO, Showtime and ESPN guys really have). In the runner-up bout, Alfonso Gomez outworked the larger and more powerful Jesse Brinkley to win a unanimous decision over five rounds. Although the series will not return, the producers reportedly still have the right to exercise options in the next two weeks that will allow them to promote the careers of the fifteen living contestants. -Scott Shaffer
