Larios Paves The Way For Unification!

PRESS RELEASE:WBC super bantamweight champion Oscar “Chololo” Larios successfully defended his crown for the sixth time last night at the Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore, California, defeating former world champion Wayne McCullough via unanimous 12 round decision. With the victory, Larios has cleared the way for a unification bout with WBO 122-pound titlist Joan Guzman.

Yet to reach this point, Larios had to defeat the courageous McCullough - who had faced such world-class fighters such as Hall of Famer Daniel Zaragoza, Scott Harrison, Naseem Hamed, and Erik Morales during his illustrious career – and from the opening bell, the two world-class super bantamweights went to war, displaying the heart and skill that only true world champions possess.

With hundreds of punches being thrown each round, the fans in the arena and watching around the country on FSN’s “Best Damn Sports Show Period” were treated to an early candidate for 2005 “Fight of the Year.” But as the bout reached the midway point, the champion started to impose his will on the gritty challenger, and though McCullough kept throwing punch after punch in a quest to unseat the champion, Larios’ more accurate punches were piling up points and hurting the “Pocket Rocket.”

In the late rounds, the heated pace of the contest refused to let up - a testament to the conditioning and professionalism of these two warriors – and Larios continued to fight with as much strength in the 12th round as he did in the first, and with the judges’ verdict of 116-111, 118-110, and 118-109, the champion retained his title in style, and now looks forward to unifying his  championship later this year.

The 28-year-old Larios, a native of Guadalajara, Mexico, improves his record to 55-3-1 (35 KOs) with the victory, which is his 16th in a row dating back to  2001.
