Lara-Alvarez to get WBA interim sanction

Boxingtalk has learned that the WBA intends to sanction the upcoming junior middleweight bout between Erislandy Lara (25-3-3) and Ramon Alvarez (28-7-3) as an interim title fight. Lara-Alvarez is scheduled for August 31st in Minneapolis. Meanwhile, on July 20th in Marseille, France, the WBA mandatory challenger in the division, Michel Soro (33-2-1) will fight for the vacant regular title against Magomed Kurbanov (17-0). The WBA is expected to order the Soro-Kurbanov winner to defend against the Lara-Alvarez winner. The vacancy in the regular (secondary) title was created when the previous regular titlist, Brian Castano fought Lara (pictured) to a draw, then reportedly refused to make his manadatory against Soro.  Julian Williams will remain was the WBA super champion.
