After reading the article on BoxingTalk.com about how the WBC is on the verge of giving Oleg Maskaev an optional defense in Moscow, heavyweight Lance Whitaker, and his advisors Javier Adame and Elan Haim contacted BoxingTalk to inform the boxing world and Mr. Maskaev himself that Whitaker is ready, willing, and able to meet Maskaev in his mother country to take his belt away from the newly crowned champ.  

In a message directed right at Maskaev, Whitaker said, “You have a chance to show your countrymen, and to prove to your fans that me crushing you in two rounds back in 2001 was a fluke.”

When Whitaker was asked why Maskeav should pick him as his optional defense, Whitaker replied, “I’m sure Maskaev wants to avenge his devastating loss to me the same way Hasim Rahman did.” 

Whitaker concluded by saying, “If Maskaev is a real champion, let’s see how good he looks fighting me now.”
