Lacy rocked twice but wins majority decision

Jeff Lacy W10 Epifanio Mendoza... Jeff Lacy looked very vulnerable but won a majority decision over Epifanio Mendoza in Cabazon, California. The official scores were 95-95, 96-94 and an unjust 97-93.  Punchstat tallied a virtual dead heat in punches landed, 172-165 for Lacy, but Mendoza had Lacy badly hurt in two of the ten super middleweight rounds. ESPN analyst Teddy Atlas unofficially scored the bout a draw. Lacy was hurt in the second round but managed to survive, although Mendoza had the ex-IBF champion staggering around the ring. Mendoza, a protoypical Colombian fighter (lanky and powerful but crude), and he lost most of the early rounds, but the second round could have been a 10-8 round in his favor. The sixth and seventh were close, but the tide was starting to turn back towards Mendoza.  Lacy had no legs in the eighth and was badly hurt that round. He tackled Mendoza, and the respite given to Mendoza from the foul likely saved Lacy from a knockout, although this too should have been a 10-8 round. The tenth round featured too much holding as both men looked spent, but Lacy did just enough to win the round. Lacy could be in line for Jermain Taylor next in a battle of 2000 Olympians. source: espn2
