LYAKHOVICH UPSETS BREWSTER!

In an upset that throws the heavyweight division into further confusion, Sergeui Lyakhovich returned from over a year of inactivity to surprise WBO titlist Lamon Brewster by unanimous decision. Lyakhovich, nicknamed "the White Wolf" outboxed Brewster him early then withstood a middle-rounds assault to earn a unanimous decison victory in an early candidate for heavyweight fight of the year. Official scores were 117-110, 115-113 and 115-112. Lyakhovich built an early lead behind a quick double jab and hard right hands to the body, but Brewster came to life in the fifth, pummeling Lyakhovich on the ropes after staggering him with a left hook that landed high on the head. The resilient Lyakhovich fought his way off the ropes and it was Brewster with his back to the ropes at the end of the round. After Sergeui won the sixth round, he went down in the seventh, seemingly from fatigue as much as the punches of Brewster. It was the bout's only knockdown. Brewster was badly hurt in the ninth after getting hit with a looping right hand, but an overeager Lyakhovich could not finish him off. The pace slowed in the final three rounds, with Lyakhovich the more active of the two. Both men talked rematch after the give and take affair which pleased the lively Cleveland crowd. source: Showtime
