Kovacs stops Thiam in Hungary!

Attila Kovacs (now 15-1 with 9 KOs) defeated Mamadou Thiam this past Saturday by seventh round technical knockout.  The contest started very strong with Thiam as the aggressor in the early rounds. However, by the fifth, Kovacs started to dominate, and inl the beginning of the seventh, Thiam was knocked down. He got up, but really couldn't recover and the referee soon had to stop the EBA junior middleweight bout at 2:23 of the round. Thiam is best known for his agressive but failed bid against Felix Trinidad in 2000. On the same Hungarian card, unbeaten super middleweight Jozsef Nagy (now 12-0 with 10 KOs) also won a title belt in front of his countrymen. He won a unanimous decision over Britain's Danny Thornton (18-9-3 with 4 KOs) to capture the vacant EBA title. The official scorecards were: 117-112, 119-109 and 118-110. source: EBA press release
