Klitschko-Maskaev unification pending approval from WBC!

WBC heavyweight champ to undergo arthroscopic surgery!

According to Oleg Maskaev promoter Dennis Rappaport, heavyweight unification is just one WBC sanction away from taking place. April 21, 2007 would be the date, Wladimir Klitschko-Oleg Maskaev would be the fight. "Everyone has been asking for heavyweight unification and we're ready to give boxing fans what they've been asking for," said Rappaport, who added that Klitschko-Maskaev would likely take place in Moscow. As you know the winner of the upcoming Peter-Toney II eliminator is expecting to be immediately enforced as Maskaev's mandatory. Rappaport is hoping the WBC sanctions the unification bout if both Klitschko and Maskaev agree to face the winner of Peter-Toney II next. Where this leaves IBF mismandatory Ray Austin is unknown, but surely few outside of the Austin camp will care. March 10, 2007 was another potential date for this unification bout, but Rappaport gave BT a nice little scoop, informing us that March 10 is impossible since the WBC heavyweight champion will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow. "He's been unable to straighten his right arm out all the way following the Rahman fight. It's a minor procedure and it will only take 4-5 weeks for him to rehab but that's the reason we're now looking at April 21." It should be noted that Don King Productions co-promotes  Samuel Peter and James Toney and the high haired one has Ray Austin all to himself. More to follow including a full interview with Rappaport so stay tuned! Klitschko advisor Shelly Finkel was unavailable for immediate comment. (4:35 PM EST)
