King Rosado Back in Action May 9th

New Alhambra to Host, Delayed Broadcast on CN8

Press Release: Philadelphia, PA—‘King’ Gabriel Rosado, fresh off a second-round knockout over Joshua Onyango three weeks ago in New York City, gets back into the ring Friday, May 9, 2008 when he takes on Mustafah Johnson of Indianapolis, IN, in a six-round junior middleweight rematch at the New Alhambra, Swanson & Ritner Streets, next to Forman Mills, in South Philadelphia.  The scheduled eight-round welterweight main event features unbeaten puncher Mike Jones, of North Philadelphia, against Gilbert Venegas, of Chicago.

CN8 will televise the show on a 24-hour delay basis to more than seven million homes from Maine to Maryland and parts of Virginia.

Rosado, 22, of North Philadelphia, avenged a previous loss to Onyango with the knockout win.  Onyango had out-pointed him over six rounds last year in Philadelphia. A pro less than three years, Rosado is 8-2, 6 K0s. Johnson, 29, has had mixed results in his last two fights against Philadelphians, boxing a draw with Martinus Clay on March 28 at the Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca, NY, and dropping a decision to Gee Cullmer on April 11th at the Blue Horizon.  Both fights went six rounds.

In two previous fights at the New Alhambra, Johnson defeated Philadelphians Jose Medina and Joe Christy. In their first fight Aug. 4, 2006, Rosado earned a four-round majority decision over Johnson.

Also on the show, cruiserweight Larry Robinson, of South Philadelphia, meets William Bailey, of Chesapeake, VA, in a six-round bout.  Robinson, 32, last boxed Aug. 10, 2007, when he knocked out fellow-Philadelphian David Williams in four rounds.  He is 8-3, 6 K0s. Bailey, 37, upset West Philadelphia’s Glenn Turner in his last fight at the New Alhambra on Sept. 29, 2006.  Bailey’s record is 8-13-2, 5 K0s, but he has won three of his last four.

Junior welterweight Victor Vasquez, of North Philadelphia, boxes Ryan Belasco, of Wilmington, DE, in another six.  Vasquez is 7-1, 4 K0s; Belasco is 6-2-3, 1 K0.

Four prelims complete the eight-fight card. Tickets are on sale at Peltz Boxing (215-765-0922) or by going online at www.peltzboxing.com.
