GL: You're working with David Diaz for his title defense against Erik Morales tomorrow night. Can you tell us what we can expect to see from Diaz? "Training has gone great man. David Diaz is a hard worker, he's got great work ethic. He came down to the Lou, he put in great work. He had great sparring. It's been an excellent camp and he's just ready to go out there and defend his title."
GL: Have you been training him as though he's facing the Morales of old instead of an old Morales?
Kevin Cunningham: "We trained for the best Morales. We ain't getting caught up in this old Morales. We're prepared for El Terrible and we're prepared to give him a terrible ass whooping on him."
GL: Will this relationship with Diaz be a long lasting relationship or a one time thing?
KC: "I don't see no reason for things to change. We've been friends for years and we work real good together and I don't see anything that would lead to us not working together. The formula is working."
GL: Are you confident that Morales at his best will not be enough for him to defeat David?
KC: "We're prepared for him to put on another great Erik Morales performance. If he steps up and fights like the Erik Morales of old and David fights like he's prepared in camp, this is going to be a real treat for the fans. David is ready and he's ready to fight a hard intense twelve rounds. Does Morales have the legs and the stuff to stand up for twelve rounds? I don't think so, but we'll see tomorrow night."
GL: What's the latest with Devon Alexander?
KC: "I talked to Don yesterday about Devon. I'm waiting for him to get back at us with something. You got guys like the Peterson brothers, Andre Berto and Timothy Bradley and these guys are being moved as the next future champions and Devon has more ability and talent than all of them. DKP has to step up and go to work with Devon man. You can't sit a kid with his talent at his age for six months at a time. I'm not going to stand for it."
GL: What's the latest with Cory Spinks?
KC: "It's the same situation we've always been in. We're ready, willing and able to fight anybody. Vernon Forrest just won a title, we're ready to unify. He's going to punk out. Fucking Shane Mosley, he's been punked out. All of those guys are scared to fight Cory. Maybe we can get Winky Wright at 160, we're willing to do that. We'd give Baldomir a title shot. HBO let Vernon fight Baldomir for a title, Cory wouldn't a get to defend against Baldomir. This shit is all fucked up. Cory is ready to fight anybody and he's in the same situation as always. If the Baldomir fight was there we would have never moved up to 160 to fight Jermain, but all these so called bad ass pound for pound motherfuckers don't want to fight us. These guys are saying forget fighting for that title if Spinks got it."
