GL: What's good Kelly? How are things going in preparation for the biggest fight of your life? "Everything is going good. We're training like crazy. We're going eight, nine hours a day doing some crazy workouts. I'm can't complain though, we're feeling sharp, strong and ready to go."

GL: This is the moment you've been waiting your whole life for. What does becoming the middleweight champion of the world mean to you?

Kelly Pavlik: "Everything. This is what I've been working for my entire life. Going undefeated as a pro for seven years to get to this point is huge and it's something I plan on taking advantage of."

GL: Is there any way this fight goes the distance?

KP: "It's possible for this fight to go the distance. Taylor is slick and crafty and he has a lot of skills and he survives alot. But we'll see what happens and we'll see if he can keep up with my pace. I throw ninety punches per round, he's throwing fifty-two. He's never facesd anybody with my size and strength before so everything will show during the fight. We're see if he can stay there and keep up with my pace, if he can we'll see what happens."

GL: Emanuel has touched on your loss to Jermain in the amatuers. What can you tell us about that fight?

KP: "That fight right there was nine years ago. I was seventeen years old. Jermain was 22 or 23. He had like 200 amatuer fights and I had like 50 amatuer fights. He won the fight and I'm not going to take that away from that, but if that's what Jermain and Emanuel are going on for this fight, God bless them. If they want to come into this fight thinking about what happened with a seventeen year old kid, who just came out of the junior Oympics with three open tournament fights, I hope that's what they do. Emanuel Steward wanted to get rid of Jermain Taylor before this fight. After the Cory Spinks fight there was a big controversial decision and Emanuel is worried about his integrity in this sport and if you really think about it besides Tommy Hearns he really hasn't done much. Lennox Lewis helped put him back out there but he hasn't done much other than that."

GL: There's an 0 on his record, but in your opinion is Jermain Taylor still an undefeated fighter?

KP: "No. He's a good fighter though and he's the world champion for a reason. He's tough, he's big and he's fast for his size. He's got a lot of ability, but at the same time if you look at the Hopkins fight, I think the second one was a draw and the first one went to Hopkins. If you would have put a younger Hopkins in there with him the fight wouldn't have even been close. When you got a younger guy like Jermain Taylor, who is the new guy in the sport, of course they're going to give it to the new young guy. Why give it to Bernard Hopkins when he's only got a couple of years left in his career? The networks and the organizations were looking for a new upcoming star in Jermain Taylor. The same thing happened with Winky Wright. Why would they give him the decision in a close fight when he's much older and Jermain is supposed to be the future of the middleweight division?"

GL: Did we see the best in Kelly Pavlik against Edison Miranda or can you show us something more?

KP: "You're going to see a lot more. Edison Miranda was the type of guy who we had to fight one way. We had to fight him flat footed, right down the middle and move one way and that was straight ahead. You can't bounce around and dance with Miranda, who throws wild punches from all angles. With Jermain Taylor we know he's going to be coming right down the middle so we're going to be able to show him some movement and give him different angles. I know one thing, Jermain Taylor doesn't like to get hit and once I start firing away we're going to see what happens. I'll tell you one thing, I'm in the best shape I've ever been in my career and Jermain is not going to be able to handle a real middleweight who throws as many punches as I do and doesn't get tired."

GL: When we last spoke you expressed dissatisfaction over the immediate rematch clause. I understand the rematch is contracted to take place at a higher weight. Since you defeated Miranda to earn your shot, are you disappointed about having to give him a rematch clause?

KP: "I'll fight him again and it doesn't matter to me much. I fought Miranda when I didn't have to. If this one comes up and it's a big problem I'll take it. I don't like it though. If I beat Jermain Taylor I'm the middleweight champion. I shouldn't have to sign for a rematch clause when I'm the mandatory. That's more for their excuses than anything else, they want to be able to say this happened or that happened. Chances are I'm going to beat him so bad he doesn't want the rematch though"

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

KP: "I'm coming to make an exciting fight on September 29. There's not going to be any dancing or prancing going on. Jermain Taylor is running his mouth saying he's going to break my face, I hope he comes to do that because he's going to have to make it a fight to do that."
