Amateur heavyweight and son of Marshal, Travis Kauffman won the gold medal in the super heavyweight division at the Jose Cheo Aponte Tournament in Caguas City, Puerto Rico.  Forced to withdraw from the Golden Gloves because of food poisoning, Kauffman wasted no time in redeeming himself toward #1 status.  Although the young heavyweight prospect lost the precious opportunity for national TV exposure at the Golden Gloves, it must be noted that Travis had previously beaten the champion.  Team USA has also taken 3 other gold medals in the Jose Cheo Aponte tournament.
