Kameda, Guzman defend titles in mid-week bouts

Kameda earns respect for winning immediate rematch

Koki Kameda W12 Juan Landaeta... Give the youngster credit, he is one of the world's most watched boxers and after defeating Jaun Landaeta by controversial decision, Koki Kameda did not need to fight an immediate rematch. However, he stepped up to the plate and defeated Landaeta by unanimous decision in Japan to retain the WBA 108-pound championship and declaw his many rabid critics. Kameda has set Japan on fire due to his hip-hop persona, and he is a prime time television attraction in the love-him-or-hate-him mode of Naseem Hamed or a young Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay). Along with Manny Pacquiao, he is Asia's biggest boxing star and may be the most watched boxer in the world, despite little American coverage. Unlike the first bout in which he faded badly, Kameda took control of the rematch in the later rounds, knocking Landaeta down in the eighth. The judges scored the bout 119-108, 116-111 and 115-113 for Kameda. The champion improved to 13-0 with 10 KOs while Landaeta slipped to 20-5 with 16 KOs. source: yahoo! sports

Joan Guzman W12 Antonio Davis... Joan Guzman defended  his WBO super featherweight title in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Monday night with a unanimous twelve-round points win over Antonio Davis. Fighting in his home country, Guzman improved his professional record to 27-0, by scores of 116-110, 118-109 and 119-108. Davis, from the United States, was cut around the right eye and later was penalized one point in the eighth round. Guzman, a former titlist at 122 pounds before bulking up to 130, finished up the fight with swollen left eye. source: dominican today
