KYOWA REGAINS TITLE

Eagle Kyowa, a Thai fighting out of Japan, is now a two-time champion. In Tokyo, Kyowa regained the WBC 105-pound title with a unanimous decision over the lesser-regarded champion, Katsunari Takayama by scores of 119-111, 117-113 and 116-112. Kyowa rose to stardom quickly, changing his name several times on the way up but capturing the WBC title in just his twelfth pro fight. A fluke shoulder injury suffered mid-bout cost him his title to Isaac Bustos, and Bustos promptly lost to Takayama in his first defense. Now Takayama, 15-2, has ceded the tite back to Kyowa, 14-1. Even before the bout, Kyowa was rated #4 by Boxingtalk, eight spots above #12 Takayama. Although title unifications are something rarely seen in Japan, perhaps Kyowa's win can set up a Japanese super bout against WBA 105-pound champion Yutaka Niida. source: Kyodo news agencyÂ
