KAWASHIMA - VS - NAVARRO

The first major boxing match of 2005 produced the first candidate for worst decision of the year. Overlooked in the controversy of Katsushige Kawashima's dubious split decision win over Jose Navarro is the fact that it was a classic boxer vs. puncher match-up and likely an honorable mention for fight of the year honors. Officially, the scores from Tokyo were 120-109 for Navarro and 115-113 and 114-114 for Kawashima. Boxingtalk's house judges, Scott Shaffer and G. Leon both saw it 117-111 for Navarro. Now, as a thank you to its subscribers, Boxingtalk has arranged for its U.S. members* to be able to decide for themselves whether Navarro was robbed or whether the gutty Kawashima saved his WBC 115-pound title with a dramatic rally.  Fights often seem different when viewed on television as opposed live at ringside, so Boxingtalk has decided to leave the orginal crowd audio and Japanese television announcers intact in order to give our viewers a sense of the partisan atmosphere Navarro faced last week.
