Julio Diaz takes IBF lightweight belt when Chavez's knee collapses

Julio Diaz KO3 Jesus Chavez... After 17 months of inactivity, Jesus Chavez obviously wasn't 100% physically coming in. Wearing a knee brace to support his surgically repaired ACL, Chavez looked rusty and tentative for two rounds, and then the knee gave out at the start of the third round. Diaz, who seemed on his way to an easy win anyway, got the IBF lightweight championship by third-round knockout. He is now 34-3 and his promoter Sycuan Ringside will likely look to bring him back quickly. Chavez, 43-4, was fighting for the first time since beating Leavander Johnson in a fight that resulted in Johnson's death, and he showed both emotion and class in a teary post-fight interview. source: showtime championship boxing
