Julio Diaz Says He Never Agreed to Fight Nate Campbell

“I don’t know how I pulled out of the fight if I was never in it.”

After seeing on BoxingTalk that he reportedly pulled out of a fight with Nate Campbell, the former IBF lightweight champ Julio Diaz spoke with BoxingTalk to set the record straight.  “I don’t know how I pulled out of the fight if I was never in it,” said Diaz.  “It was just talk, it was never actually a done deal, and we never agreed to it.”  When asked if the fight with Campbell could still be made, Diaz replied, “It can still be made, but right now my promoter, Sycuan Ringside, is trying to get good things to happen for me.  Hopefully I’ll have a chance to get my title back soon.”  What sort of “good things” is Sycuan Ringside working on?  According to Diaz, all he can say right now is, “They’re pursuing a better fight for me.  We have got some great things going on right now Darren, but I want to lay low for right now.  I will let you know by next week who I’m fighting, but I know my promoter will get me the best fight possible that will get me closer to my title.”
