BoxingTalk: What do you think will be the toughest part about fighting Juan Diaz?Julio Diaz: Me slacking off and not coming in prepared.
BoxingTalk: You always come in prepared for your fights.Julio Diaz: I know I do. Juan is a tough fighter who relies on his opponent wearing down, and that’s how he’s successful.
BoxingTalk: What are you going to be working on in the gym to ensure your victory on October 13th?Julio Diaz: I don’t think we’re going to have a big change in strategy. I’m going to rely on my natural ability. I’m always on the go, and I don’t hang around the ropes too much. We’re going to get prepared mentally and physically. We’ll be working on a lot of endurance, accuracy, and timing.
BoxingTalk: I interviewed Nate Campbell a few days ago, and he said that he wants you next because he’s fought tougher opponents than Juan Diaz has, and he feels you’ve been ducking him. What would you like to say in response?Julio Diaz: I have a lot of respect for Nate Campbell. He knows how this business is though. He knows I can’t make this decision on my own. Of course I want to fight the bigger fights. I want to fight Nate Campbell, but I don’t appreciate that he’s disrespecting me. He doesn’t want to make me an enemy though. If he does, I’ll make his career a nightmare. Nate, just be cool. I know how you feel, I’ve been in the same situation. I’m not afraid of him. Look who I’ve fought, “scared” is not in my vocabulary.
BoxingTalk: Do you feel your fight with Diaz will go the distance?Julio Diaz: I’m not even thinking towards that. I don’t want it to. I want to go in there and take him apart as much as I can. If I see an opportunity, then I’ll end it.
BoxingTalk: Is this a make or break, do-or-die type fight for you?Julio Diaz: I don’t know. That’s for you guys to decide. For myself, I consider it is.
