Juarez to speak about controversial scoring

Will appear on ESPN2 tonight

Edited Press Release: Tonight on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights, Rocky Juarez will appear in-studio with Brian Kenny to discuss his near upset of world junior lightweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera last week. Juarez (now 25-2-0) battered Barrera, bruising both of the champ’s eyes and bloodying his nose.  The bout was originally ruled a draw, but then overturned to a split-decision victory for Barrera after it was determined that the scorecard tally sheet was incorrect. The judge at the center of the scoring controversy is no stranger to decisions being reversed after the crowd has gone home. On Ken Morita's card, the late change by the California Commission altered his card from 114-114 to 115-114 for Barrera, which converted the draw into a split-decision win for Barrera. About six years ago, Morita's card was also added incorrectly in Jose Luis Castillo-Stevie Johnston II, a WBC lightweight championship fight. Johnson was announced as the winner, and thought he had regained the title that Castillo had taken from him in their first bout. However, Morita's scorecard was supposedly added incorrectly and the alleged error was discovered shortly afterwards, claiming he had the bout even at 114 to 114, which allowed Castillo, a Mexican like Barrera, to hold onto the WBC title by majority draw. The WBC, like Barrera and Castillo, is based in Mexico. Coincidence? You decide.
