Juan Manuel Lopez TKO11 Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. ... Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. was a fight many boxing fans wanted to see for a long time, even if some said both were past their prime. They finally squared off on Saturday and even though both had been losing recent fights, they made up for the delay with a tremendous war in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Lopez had a two-year layoff and Vazquez had not won since 2014 but both warriors came in great shape. Vazquez outboxed Lopez in the first half of the fight, using his jab and lateral movement. However, Lopez began to come on strong in the second half, getting the better of the exchanges to turn things around. In the eleventh, Lopez cut the ring off and backed Vazquez into the ropes. Lopez then caught Vazquez with a big left hand followed by a flurry of punches. The referee waved off the fight immediately as Vazquez went down. Many angry fans threw trash in the ring because the referee failed to give Vazquez an eight count. As soon as the ref waved the fight over, Lopez ran to Vazquez’s corner and began fighting one of Vazquez's cornermen as pandemonium erupted. Immediately following the fight, Vazquez, a former WBO 122-pound champion, said he is retiring.  Lopez said he wouldn’t mind fighting Mares or even Salido one more time.
