GL: Can you give us some thoughts on your last fight against Vivian Harris? "My last performance was a very good tough fight against Vivian Harris. A lot of the ringside press and the boxing insiders thought that I would be knocked out within five rounds. I guess I proved a few of them wrong. Not only did I not get knocked out, I feel I did enough to win the fight. I know I had a point taken from me in the last round, which I don't know where that came from. But I think I shook off the rust of fighting in twelve round fights, but I feel like I've got my second wind and I'm looking for bigger and better things."
GL: What's the blueprint now?Juan Lazcano: "The blueprint is that I want to fight the very best out there. I've proven that I belong there and I want to fight the very best. I know that Arturo Gatti is looking for someone to fight and I'm looking to make the biggest and best fights out there. Getting the title is great and would be great. That's my ultimate goal, that and to make the biggest and best fights for boxing me and my fans."
GL: Gatti is fighting at welterweight, does that mean you're willing to move up to fight him?JL: "Yeah, I'd be willing to go up to 147 to fight him. There were some other names mentioned that I won't mention right now, but I just feel alive right now. I want boxing, my sport to thrive and keep giving the fans what they deserve. I want to get out of boxing what I want, but I want to fight the best more than anything. I'm an active participant in this journey. I want to contribute to the sport as well as my career."
GL: Earlier you bascially in so many words said that you feel you were the victim of a bad decision in a close fight. Does that mean that you want a rematch with Harris somewhere down the line?JL: "Yeah. I think that would be a great fight that the people would love to see. It would be more interesting if along the way I win a title. I know he's going to fight Witter and we'll see what happens there. Castillo and Hatton are also fighting so there's some interesting options at 140 and I think all the top fighters are willing to get it on."
GL: What's your daily routine like these days?JL: "I've been working to keep myself in shape. This is what I do and this is my career. Eating right and maintaining my weight is a top priority."
GL: Is it an impossibility for you to move back down to lightweight?JL: "Yeah it is. I don't know how I made 135 for as long as I did. I wish I could, but I can't."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?JL: "I just want to have fun and get a title shot. Get that title and defend it against the best. I want to boogie down with the best and have some fun."
