Guillermo Brito from Promocines Zanfer announced the return of WBA super flyweight champion Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada, who will see action against Argi Cortes on September 3rd in Hermosillo, Mexico. Estrada (42-3) was also the WBC champion as of his last fight, a unification bout that he narrowly won against Roman Gonzalez, but the WBC has since stripped Estrada. Cortes, from Mexico, is 23-2-2 and has not lost since dropping a pair of four rounders in 2014 and 2015.
Back in action for the first time since March 2021, Estrada said, “I am very happy and motivated, it will be a very special night, so I am doing a great preparation alongside my coach Alfredo Caballero. I have been training at altitude for some time now and I feel in excellent physical condition. I am a fighter who appreciates that there is no minor rival, so I must always train to the maximum. This is a great opportunity because first I will fight on my turf and it is also a fight that will return me to the path of victory, that night I will give my best, I assure you” -Juan commented-
Nacho Beristain, Cortes' trainer, said that his pupil is going to face the best fighter he has seen in recent times, but that he trusts Cortes' ambition and the preparation they are doing.
