Referee Joe Cortez stopped the bout at 2:06 of the ninth as Diaz was punishing the Filippino challenger with head shots. However, Diaz laid the groundwork for the stoppage with an effective body attack. Suico was competitive in rounds five through seven, but Diaz was ahead in the bout throughout.
