Juan Diaz made his second defense of the WBA lightweight title a succesful one, stopping overmatched Billy Irwin in the ninth round. Irwin wasn't close to going down at the time of the stoppage but his eye was closing, he was absorbing a lot of punishment and doing little in return. It was a soft defense for Diaz, Boxingtalk's #4 lightweight.  Billy Irwin, who is not rated in Boxingtalk's top thirty, failed in his second attempt at a world title,which is two more chances than he has earned.  source: ESPN2
