Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz, the WBA/WBO/IBF Lightweight Champion, enrolled for the spring semester at the University of Houston Downtown, along with his brother and fellow boxer, featherweight Jose Diaz.  Juan will be carrying nearly a full load so that he can graduate early and attend law school.  Eventually, Juan would like to pursue his interest in politics.  (Mayor Baby Bull has a nice ring to it!)

Juan wants to encourage all young boxers to stay in school and continue their education.  Juan believes that it is important for boxers to educate themselves so that they can make informed decisions as boxers, and have the skills and tools that will enable them to pursue careers beyond the ring.  Even more than boxing, Juan said that his education will allow him to care for his family, pursue his goals, and control his own destiny.

Juan hopes that young boxers will admire him for more than just his jab.  If he is going to be anybody's role model, he wants it to be because he will be the first in his family to graduate from college.  In fact, Juan said that earning his degree will mean more to him than any of his belts.  In Juan's book, graduating from school is the sweetest victory of all.
