Willie Savannah, manager of undefeated WBA/IBF and WBO lightweight champion Juan Diaz, informs Boxingtalk that Diaz's mandatory defense against Michael Katsidis, originally slated to take place on HBO February 9, is now off. Golden Boy Promotions recently won a purse bid to earn the right to promote the fight, but as has been their policy over the years, HBO refused to air the fight once DKP threatened legal action. Savannah also informed Boxingtalk that DKP has to provide Diaz with one more fight before their contract expires, but stated, "Who knows if that fight will ever happen? It's not like he's going to give us a bout agreement that doesn't have options where he's trying to get more fights just for honoring his contract." Remember where you heard it first! (11:21 AM EST)
