WBA/IBF 140-pound champion Josh Taylor (pictured) has officially confirmed Ben Davison as his new trainer. "The Tartan Tornado" confirmed the news on Thursday evening soon after announcing his next fight – a clash with IBF mandatory challenger Apinun Khongsong at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on May 2nd. Davison worked with Tyson Fury for a while, but not for Fury's win over Deontay Wilder last week. Taylor said: “I am pleased to finally announce that I’m teaming up with and going to be trained by Ben Davison for the next chapter of my career. I think Ben is a world-class coach and when I first had a couple of sessions with him, we gelled and our styles clicked straight away. I believe Ben is the best man for the job for me and that he’ll bring out the best in me. I’m very excited to get going for what I think is going to be a very bright and prosperous partnership. Our journey starts now and we are gearing towards my mandatory defence on May 2nd.”
Taylor seized the IBF world title in May 2019 when he outpointed Ivan Baranchyk and added the WBA super championship and World Boxing Super Series trophy to his collection in a thriller against Regis Prograis back in October.
