Jose Perez joins Coast Guard

PRESS RELEASE: Jose Perez, Jr., a talented amateur who won a national championship in 2002 and then his first seven pro fights, has decided to take a break from pro boxing and sign up with the Coast Guard.  After losing for the first time, a second-round knockout to Hector Leyva, the junior featherweight will serve his country during this time of war. A multiple-time golden gloves winner, Perez is still just 23, so there is plenty of time for him to return to the sport if he decides to do so. Boxingtalk wishes him the best in the Coast Guard.  Meanwhile, his dad, Jose Sr. will continue to work with boxers at the Pacific States Boxing Club .
