Says tomorrow's WBA eliminator is his last bout
Jose Antonio Rivera, a role model for youngsters but a boxer who has been known to turn down big fights, told his local newspaper that tomorrow night's WBA junior middleweight eliminator bout will be his last fight, even if he wins. Rivera held the WBA 154-pound title but lost it to Travis Simms, who lost it to Joachim Alcine. Tomorrow, Rivera is fighting Daniel Santos to determine the next mandatory contender for Alcine. The article did not mention if Rivera intends to pay sanctioning fees to the WBA for the eliminator, which would seem to be a waste of money if he was serious about retiring. source: worcester telegram
