Jones to replace Mormeck vs. Braithwaite?

According to a Mexican website, Esto En Linea, Guillermo Jones of Panama will challenge Wayne Braithwaite on October 2, 2004 at New Yor City's Madison Square Garden as part of the Felix Trinidad-Ricardo Mayorga undercard.  Braithwaite was scheduled to unify his WBC cruiserweight title with Jean-Mark Mormeck's WBA version, but Mormeck reportedly suffered an injury.  Jones, the #9 cruiserweight in the world according to Boxingtalk, arguably should be the only man in boxing history to win world titles at both junior middle and cruiserweight (Thomas Hearns won a couple of bogus belts at cruiserweight in the 1990s that should not be recognized).  Jones probably deserved to have his hand raised after challenges to  WBA junior middle titlist Laurent Boudouani in 1998 and WBO cruiser titlist Johnny Nelson in 2002, but was saddled with a split-decision loss and a draw respectively.  Now it seems as though Jones will apparently get a third crack at a title against the undefeated Braithwaite, rated #2 according to Boxingtalk.  -Scott Shaffer
