"I’m going to get in the ring and see what’s in front of me, and take care of Griffin from there."
BoxingTalk: Glen, how did preparation go for your fight against Montell Griffin?Glen Johnson: My preparation was wonderful. We finished up a few days ago, and now we have a day to go before I deal with Griffin.
BoxingTalk:Â And how are you going to deal with Griffin?Glen Johnson:Â With a couple of lefts and a right, and we should be out of there.
BoxingTalk: Since Griffin has not been in the ring for over a year, what kind of fight do you expect from him?Glen Johnson: I don’t look at his inactivity as a factor. I haven’t been in the ring that recently myself, but I know I’m sharp. When you have something to fight for, like a shot at the IBF title there is no more inspiration that is needed.
BoxingTalk: What kind of fight are you brining to Griffin on Wednesday?Glen Johnson: With my style I can adapt to what is in front of me. I’m going to get in the ring and see what’s in front of me, and take care of Griffin from there.
BoxingTalk: What advantage do you feel you have over Griffin that will ensure yourself a victory?Glen Johnson: My skills are better and there’s no style that I haven’t seen before. Griffin has been around the block himself, but my accomplishments are better than his. Griffin’s style is to fight the same way from start to finish. People who have followed by career have seen me go from boxer to boxer-puncher to a straight-forward guy who tries to get guys out of the ring, so I can brandish all styles.
BoxingTalk: With 2007 nearing its halfway mark, what is your goal for the remainder of the year?Glen Johnson: My goal is to be the IBF light heavyweight champ before the year is over. Woods has nine months before he has to fight me, but knowing how cowardly he is I may not accomplish my goal. I would like to be in the ring at least two more times hopefully before the years up on ESPN or any other channel that will have me.
BoxingTalk: The last time we saw you in the ring you took a disputed loss against Woods. How important is it for you to face him for the 4th time of your career to get his IBF title?Glen Johnson: There’s nobody I want to face more than him. No other fighter has robbed me twice like Clinton Woods has. He has the title that doesn’t belong to him. I want to hurt him since he hurt me twice with a draw and his last win that they gave to him.Â
BoxingTalk: Going back to Griffin, do you have a specific strategy to defeat him or are we going to see the same workhorse effort that we’re used to seeing when you fight?Glen Johnson: I am going to have a little bit of everything. It depends on what he brings to the table. I have the height and reach advantage, and I have all kind of game plans to beat him.
BoxingTalk: What is your prediction for your fight against Griffin?Glen Johnson: To get him out of there. I’m not sure what round it will be, but if that doesn’t happen than I’ll go for the unanimous decision.
