Johanneson to defend UK title on Nov. 3

Press Release: Carl Johanneson will make the first defence of his British super featherweight title against Bradford's Femi Fehintola at the Metrodome in Barnsley, England on November 3, 2006. Johanneson, from Leeds, won his belt in sensational style against Billy Corcoran, silencing the partisan London crowds in 4 action packed rounds. As Johanneson looks to stake his claim as Britain's elite 130-pound fighter, the famous Lonsdale belt will be on the line. "I'm grateful that Carl has given me this opportunity to fight for his title, but I'm determined to make the most of my chance so I can emulate the recent success of my teammate and world champion Clinton Woods," says Fehintola. "I've also received words of encouragement from world's pound for pounder Ricky Hatton and on the night of November 3, I hope to have both men in my corner." Johanneson responded by saying, "I've worked hard to get where I am and I'm not about to let some 14 fight novice take that away from me. It doesn't matter who he has in the corner at the Barnsley Metrodome. Once the bell goes there are only two men in the ring and even if he had WBA heavyweight champion the beast from the east in his corner, that won't save him."  The undercard features the long awaited return of Jason Booth.
