Joey Gilbert returns on August 5

JOEY GILBERT will fight in a feature bout on “Double Trouble in Tahoe!” – the August 5 world championship doubleheader promoted by Gary Shaw Productions (www.garyshawproductions.com) at the outdoor pavilion of MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa in Lake Tahoe, NV.  Headlined by the IBF/IBO bantamweight title rematch between Rafael Marquez and Silence Mabuza and the Juan Manuel Marquez – Terdsak Jandarng WBO interim featherweight title rumble, SHOWTIME Championship Boxing will televise both world title fights live at 9 p.m. ET (9 p.m. PT, delayed on the west coast.)

 

Gilbert, (11-1, 8 KOs), from Reno, a three time-national champion for the University of Nevada club boxing team, rose to international stardom on the NBC reality show “The Contender.”  He returns to the ring for the first time since capturing the NABO title on February 18 via a third-round knockout of former “Contender” Jimmy Lange.  Currently world-rated No. 13 by the World Boxing Organization, Gilbert will be fighting in an eight-round non-title bout against an opponent to be named shortly.  Gilbert last fought in Northern Nevada on November 5, winning a six-round unanimous decision over James North, at the same venue.
