Joel Casamayor speaks his mind

World lightweight champion Joel "El Cepillo" Casamayor contacted Boxingtalk.com recently to vent some of his understandable frustrations. "Basically I feel kind of disrespected that these chumps Acelino Freitas and Juan Diaz are all over BoxingTalk and they neither one of them allow my name to come out of their mouth. I understand they have a big fight coming up, but I'm the best lightweight in the world so the real fans know it doesn't matter who fights each other at lightweight because if they're not fighting me they're not fighting the champion."

GL: Has the WBC named you interim champion?

Joel Casamayor: "Yes and we're supposed to be fighting the winner of Morales and Diaz and we want Erik Morales to win because that would be a huge fight. If he runs away from fight into retirement or to fight someone else, I'm going to see if whichever one of those chumps that are fighting for meaningless belts this month want to challenge the champion."

GL: What did you think about Clottey-Corrales?

JC: "I don't think Corrales was ready for that kind of a fight. He got his jaw broken in the fight and I don't think he should continue to fight at that weight. If he can't go down he should retire now instead of getting a few more losses."

GL: Can we still expect you to return to the ring in Panama on Roberto Duran's birthday?

JC: "That's what it looks like."

GL:  Any update on the opponent yet?

JC: "Nope, but I'm over here starting camp and when I'm not working I'm reading up on my BoxingTalk champion. It's just that being the BoxingTalk champion and the Ring Magazine champion my name should be brought up any time there's a lightweight discussion."

GL: Freitas promoter Artie Pelullo told me that the reason you're not fighting Acelino again is because HBO didn't want the fight. How do you feel about that?

JC: "I don't believe that. HBO is supposed to be the best network in the world of boxing so why wouldn't the best network want the best lightweight in the world? That doesn't make much sense to me."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

JC: "I want to thank all of my fans for their support. Right now I'm keeping myself sharp and I'm going to be ready to defend my titles against whichever one of these chumps steps up first."
