British 122-pounder Joe McGrail has signed a new long-term promotional agreement with Matchroom Boxing as the unbeaten Liverpudlian continues his pursuit of major championships, beginning on Saturday, September 5th in Dublin. The 23-year old, the younger brother of fellow Matchroom boxer Peter McGrail, will face unbeaten Matthew Boreland of Coleraine on the Katie Taylor undercard at Croke Park before an expected crowd of 80,000, live on DAZN. McGrail (13-0, 6 KOs), who trains at Everton Red Triangle Gym, believes a victory in Dublin will set the stage for bigger opportunities.

 

"I'm made up to have signed a new long-term deal with Matchroom Boxing," said McGrail. "I had a difficult time with injuries last year, but Matchroom stood by me. I'm very grateful to Frank Smith, Eddie Hearn and my manager, Anto Fitzpatrick, for their support. I'm fully fit again, feeling stronger than ever, and ready to repay that support in the ring. That begins on September 5th on the Katie Taylor undercard. It'll be a huge night at Croke Park against an unbeaten Matthew Boreland in front of 80,000 fans. I fully expect that victory to be the first of many that come my way, and I'm excited about what the future holds."

 

Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn believes McGrail has the ability to compete at the highest level. "Joe is an exciting young fighter with tremendous ability," said Hearn. "He endured a difficult spell with injuries last year, but he's back and ready to remind everyone of his talent. That's why we've made this long-term commitment to him.
